How to change your own earmold tubing
I'd like to save you a trip to your audiologist's office and show you how to change the tubing in an earmold. You'll know it's time for new tubing if you notice cracks, tears, issues with sound quality, or the tubing starts to harden.
These are the tools you will need. I have side cutting pliers (really scissors of any kind will do), a tubing puller, new tubing with a plastic lock, and an earmold. I've already removed the old tubing from the earmold.
First, insert the loop of the tubing puller through the bore of the earmold that sits into the ear canal. Next, Place the tapered end of the new tubing through the loop. Feed the tubing through the bore by pulling back on the tubing puller until the outside part of the tubing sticks straight up in alignment with the outside of the earmold. Cut the tubing flush with the ear canal bore. Trim the other side of the tubing to your desired length.
Finally, attach the earhook of your hearing aid to the tubing. The outside of the earmold should should align with the direction of the hearing aid.
Tubing changes are quite simple to do from home and should be done every 3-6 months as needed.
